Mouthier-Haute-Pierre to Pontarlier, 21 km

One minute update

Full episode

A quick bite for breakfast and I was out the door. I said my goodbyes and followed the signs out of town.

Cascading waterfalls led me to a hydroelectric power plant and then on a crazy 3 km walk through a gorge that would test my commitment. Beautiful scenery through some of the most pristine trails I’ve seen so far but oh so dangerous. Steep climbs over wet and loose rocks and broken roots. This was not a place for the trolley, and soon it became a struggle for my very survival.

One wrong step I would have been gone. Three hours later I was so glad to see a bar I made a stop to catch my breath.

It was mid-day, and I was still looking at 18km. The woods did not take pity on me. A refreshing break on a hot afternoon at a cemetery and I had made it to Pontaelier.

Once in town I went straight to the post office I sent 10 pounds worth of gear back home. Thanks to donation Johnathan and Alfredo’s donation I stayed at a modest hotel on top of a restaurant.

To reward myself for a job well done I had the sweetest of treats, gelato.
