VIA FRANCIGENA | Day 69
Altopascio to San Miniato, 25.4 km
Only one bathroom and eleven pilgrims so I was out of the Ostelo by 6:30 am. I headed straight to the first open bar and tried something different for breakfast.
It was flat, rocky trails walking on the original via Francigena over the remains of an old Roman road with stone markers, horses, fire and all.
I had an espresso at a bar with a great company. And wouldn’t you know it, a water fight broke out while I was refilling my bottle. Everything is all right now, as we made peace over lunch.
Speaking of the side of the road… yeah, it got kind of crazy and so did the wind.
It felt like a hurricane was about to hit the area. Of all the places to spend the night, I stayed at the one ran by a commie Hospitalero who is a true Fidel Castro sympathizer. Serenity now!
It was pasta for dinner with the company of fellow pilgrims including a Boricua from San Francisco of all places.
