VIA FRANCIGENA | Day 73
Monteriggioni to Siena, 20.4 km
Another great morning in a breath-taking medieval village. I could get used to this. Left the AirB&B under a full moon and had the all too familiar breakfast at the bar in the main square. I made my way down the remains of an old Roman road and the Argentinians were not far behind.
Came across a pilgrim oasis by a castle in the Tuscan hills. I got a stamp, a Poweraid for the road, some snacks and a cappuccino while I was at it. It was all by donation.
Time to shed my old skin and make the last push. 2 km went by in a blink of an eye and I was finally in Siena.
Celebratory pizza and a beer for Lunch, oh and Gelato of course. Thanks to my friend Leyda’s donation I stayed for the next couple of days with the Santa Luisa nuns.
I went for a quick visit to Siena’s world-famous Piazza del Campo with its imposing bell tower. The piazza was under the watchful eye of the Italian military. Gotta protect those tourist dollars.
Dinner was fish, vegetables and baked potatoes at a small joint.
