VIA FRANCIGENA | Day 78
Gallina to Radicofani, 22 km
The B&B had yogurt, apple juice, croissant and Nutella on the counter. I made some Italian coffee, and I called it a good breakfast. Left the farmhouse on a beautiful sunny morning.
The village of Gallina was not far off, and I bumped into new pilgrim friends at the bar.
We walked together for the remaining of the day. First on the tarmac and then off into the hillsides. It was 10:30 am when we reached the halfway point.
We could take a three-hour detour to the bath in Bagni San Filippo or, who am I kidding? That’s precisely what we did. This time around the water was nice and hot. The place was packed with tourists, so I had to put on my war face. Because of sulfur in the baths, the place smells of rotten eggs.
Lunch was leftovers and a beer. The last 8 km to Radicofani were on the road and all the way up. Thanks to Cheryl’s donation I got a stamp and a bed at a donativo Ostello in a village with a population of 800 residents.
A quick trip to the church and then to the supermarket and it was another homemade dinner with good company.
